Regarding oregon scientific weather stations, Does any one know if the sensor goes indoors or outdoors.????

The Sensors are all weatherproof so can go indoors or out.

However, take heed if you use channel one for an outside sensor because both my Oregon units have a "frost agile" function which sounds an alarm when the sensor temperature

It would be variety of hard to tell the weather if all the sensors are indoors.

What is the cause of a haywire wind chill reading on Oregon Scientific's MSN Regional Weather Station (801)

Everything works tremendous except the wind chill reading has been off 81 degrees from the day I set it up. It reads 101 when it should be 20. Is the breath chill converted by the unit itself or is it part of the information transmitted by the MSN Undiplomatic

Well, check d cash in one's checks the manual of usage. That might be sth wrong there.

It sounds like a mis-calibrated contract to me :-) If you can contact the station owner, they might appreciate knowing about it.

High Desert Weather 101

Scientific Explanation: Central Oregon sees the rain shadow effect on numerous occasions because it is located on the eastern side of the Cascades. Typically storms ride along the jet stream, which mainly runs in a west to east direction. A rain shadowed parade is a dry area on the lee (eastern) side of a mountain range. The mountains block the passage of rain-producing weather systems, casting a "shadow" of dryness behind them. When the flow within the air is out of the west, the air is forced upwards so it can travel over the Cascades. This forced upward motion is called orographic lift. The lifting causes the air to cool, condense into clouds, and precipitate.

Normally, a majority of the rain and snowfall associated with a storm will fall on the western slopes of the Cascades or directly in the Cascades. When that air finally moves over the Cascade crest and begins to sink down on the eastern slopes, it begins to dry and warm. This sinking motion separates the air's temperature from its dew point temperature. The separation between these two causes the cloud cover to break up and to tolerate less (if any) precipitation to fall here in Central Oregon.

Japan rebuilds, Oregon prepares

Throughout history, humans have struggled to make sense of the earth's propensity to let loose with violent subterranean rumblings.

Hoary Greeks kept watch for weasels and snakes burrowing out of the ground and heading for the hills, while Aristotle believed earthquakes were caused by air escaping from underground caves and declared that hot, calm weather was an indicator of a pending seismic event.

Two-and-a-half millennia later, we've yet to find a consistent gauge for forecasting terrestrial tremors. Event probabilities can be calculated, but precise prediction remains impossible, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

Though seismologists have long warned that Oregon's Pacific coast is overdue for a mega-quake, what scientists, engineers and concerned coastal communities know about the elusive "when" amounts to a sum total of outdo guesses and educated estimates.

Oregon Seismic Safety Policy Admonitory Commission member Jay Wilson summed it up like this: "It has happened and it will happen again someday."

How to Do So Like a Talk Show Pro

It’s extremely rare to host a teleseminar exclusively with people who already recognize your voice. Likewise, listeners may not recall the name of your guest. They may have downloaded or received your audio recording without an competent written introduction. So always introduce both yourself and your guest using both first and last names.

The crush way to remember this seemingly obvious inclusion is to have a standard introduction and close that you have written out in front of you during the teleseminar. Without this, you’ll forget and lose some of the marketing impact of your expertise. (”Gosh, what a smart host, but Jerry who?”)

Check before of time on the proper pronunciation of your guest’s name, and write it out phonetically if necessary so you can say it (for instance: ach-mah-DEE-na-zhad). The other day I listened to an audio interview in which the host confessed that he was sure to butcher his guest’s name, and would he please introduce himself? The guest then introduced himself, but without stating his name. So the host ended up being rude not only to his guest but also to his audience, who had no idea who they were listening to.

Second, listen. Listen to your guest! If you’re too focused on the list of questions to get through, or you’re thinking of the next question while your guest is speaking, you could commit an naff gaffe, like one teleseminar host whose closed ears amazed me. Not once but four times during the call he mis-stated something that his guest had said, so that the guest repeatedly corrected him. Anyone who’d been thinking of hiring that host as a coach or consultant would surely have finished the call resolving not to do so, he was such a horrible listener.

Third, be prepared with a list of questions for your guest. Sometimes your guest will write up the questions for you, but if not, create your own collection of things you want to ask. Instead of just mechanically going through the list one by one, however, think of it as a conversation and follow up on interesting comments your guest makes, with “Could you say more about that?” “For example?” or “What do you mean by such and such?”

Fourth, let your guest do most of the talking. You should talk no more than 20 percent of the time, with your guest talking 80 percent of the time. Remember that you chose as your guest someone your listeners are going to want to hear from, and let that happen instead of using a teleseminar interview as your own soapbox.

Fifth, as the conversation goes along, explain any technical term or insider reference that listeners may not understand. Recently while interviewing someone about her marketing successes, I politely interrupted to ask her to define terms like “marketing funnel” and “conversion” for listeners, who as relative beginners might not know these terms.

Likewise, if your guest mentions someone else’s name in passing or a URL, jump in and repeat the name, spell out the URL and provide any context that might be necessary for some of your listeners.

As host you need to keep listeners properly oriented, which also creates a positive impression for yourself, too. To further polish your hosting technique, listen to top-notch interviewers on radio or TV, paying heed less to the content than to how they keep the conversation moving along and interesting for the listener.
