Does the Brita filter always need to be in water?

I have a brita water filter and I followed the directions when I opened the filter and soaked it for 15 minutes and I have been filtering water for a several months now. Do I still need to keep it soaked in water all the time now? I don't always remember

You can always look up their website or call the body to make sure if it needs to be or not..but I don't keep mine wet 24/7 and I don't have a problem with mine at all. Makes me surprise though if you are right.

I have three closed Brita Water Filter packs that I have had for like 1 year or more, are they usable? How long does an un-opened filter last large?

Closed, undamaged Brita filters are good indefinitely. They do not expire.

Well it’s been another gross week of high temperatures, thunderstorms and migraines. Not that I’ve been exposed the heat part.

You can tell it’s summer in my house when there’s condensation dripping off the windows and warping the sill. People can bungle to me all they want about conserving energy, but if it gets over 79° Mama ain’t happy (more accurately, Mama’s asthma ain’t happy).

I’ve also been drinking more water these days since it’s too hot and headachey for large amount s of coffee. That Brita filter so far has been worth the investment. I have mentioned a few times that I hate water. HATE IT — with the passion of a thousand fiery suns. I have to toss it back like a grad-student just to get enough fluids in my body.

Lately, however, it’s been less of a chore. Maybe it’s because I’m getting older, or maybe it’s because I’m starting to wean myself off caffeine a little. Maybe it’s because I’m more enlightened of my body’s needs. Maybe it’s because I’m mutating into a fish person.

Ready to extradite the plastic water bottle? You can choose to drink water straight from the tap, which the federal government says is largely safe, or you can filter that tap water for contaminants and chemicals, and to freshen the taste.

If you choose to filter you be joining an patent migration away from disposable bottled water to more efficient home filtering. The estimated revenue for the water-filter pitcher/carafe market last year was $183 million (excluding Walmart), a 24 percent growth rate since 2005, according to one research group.

There are at least a dozen systems to choose from, starting with market-leader Brita (owned by Clorox), which has dominated the water-filter pitcher market in the U.S. for years, and including number two seller, PUR, and an array of other big and boutique brands. All offer a variety of styles, safeguards, bells and whistles.

Here are the highlights of 12 brands on the market:

Brita

There are 17 styles of Brita water-filter pitchers, ranging from the Slim (holds 5 cups, $11) to the larger Deluxe (10 cups, $25) to the Grand (10 cups, $32) which comes in four color options. The Grand (and nine other styles) has an electronic filter-change indicator, and many of Brita’s pitchers have flip-top lids and soft-grip handles.

Brita says its filters last about two months and filter about 40 gallons. It says each filter can save as many as 300 plastic water bottles. One filter is $8, and a six-pack is $38.

Its larger countertop model is the Ultramax, which holds 18 cups and can fit in the refrigerator with a bit of extra space, $42.

Brita says its pitcher is BPA free and its filters remove bad tastes/odors, chlorine and the heavy metals copper, cadmium and mercury.

Recycling of filters has been an issue for the green consumer, so in 2008 Brita launched a recycling program where consumers can drop off their filter at an space Whole Foods Market or mail them back to the company.
