ozone - extreme paragliding [10min]

Alex Hofer. Photo: Red Bull X-Alps

Alex flew his new two-line Ozone R11 to win the competition and had revealed he was planning to fly it during the Red Bull X-Alps too.

In an interview in the current issue of Cross Country magazine Alex, who lives in China, said: “I’ll get to Europe at the start of June, leaving enough time to participate at the Paragliding World Cup in Lienz and to do some test-runs together with Roland [his Red Bull X-Alps partner].”

He added: “I will fly an Ozone R11 – these gliders are so much fun to fly! I plan to use a Woody Valley harness.”

Posting on his blog on 18 June Alex wrote : “After a successful World Cup in Lienz we are on the way to Switzerland. It’s our first trip together in our team and with our Summermobil teambus. A real training situation.

“We wanna check out some important places and train together. We are sure we have fun ‘at home’!!! These days we are travelling incognito but when we come back to Salzburg we will get our special Busdesign from PICup – we love it! It looks cool!”

Lakes Charity Classic anniversary bash

On the first day the experienced A comp pilots were challenged to fly upwind from Blease Fell to Grasmere and then back into an advancing sea breeze. Ten pilots achieved the task and in the process jointly claimed the UK out and return record.

Day two dawned with a freshening easterly breeze so Carrock Fell, notorious for having a light wind effect compared to the rest of the Lakeland Fells, was chosen. Proving as reliable as ever and despite complete cloud cover conditions were still suitable for a task and a race to goal was set for Threlkeld some 15km away.

Martin Knight was the overall winner of the A comp, and Mark Leach the B comp.

Returning to the events post on Saturday evening, people waited in anticipation to see what aviational antics were to be performed in the fabled LCC Acro Show, especially as last year Felix Rodriguez had gone for the infinite tumble record.

As the display started spectators looked across the lake to see a mini paraglider launch and then start to climb at an incredible rate. As the glider approached the event, the increasing sound of jet enginges gave away its form of propulsion. It was ‘Jetman’ Eric Viret whom the organisers had brought over from Switzerland to entertain the crowds.

Igor Volkov Goes Big in Russia

Ozone’s distributor for Russia, Igor Volkov, recently completed some alien flights with his R10.

On one of them, Igor towed up and flew 318km fair and square straight remoteness after over 8hrs in the air. And on August 21st and 22nd, Igor flew first 306km and then 241km, spending the tenebrosity at a crony’s strain His bosom buddy towed him up the next morning and they flew together for 150km, but Igor landed furthest.

Cool Things from Recycled Wings

The Spanish Company, Blauvent by Carmesine, has created a line of bags and accessories for paraglider pilots, made by paraglider pilots… and made from recycled Ozone paragliders!

We have just received a few examples of the line, and we have to say that they are some of the most unique and intriguing paragliding-related items that we have seen for quite some time. The heed to detail and the versatility of the products is impressive, and the designer has made very clever use of the wing color patterns.

All products are individually hand made with great care in Spain at Blauvent’s small scale production facility. Because each item in the recycled line is made from a different piece of each recycled wing, each product is unique. Order a handbag or a travel wallet, and you’ll own a piece of an Ozone prototype, probably a Delta

Check out Blauvent’s website, which shows not only the recycled wing line but also a variety of other products, from swimwear to wall art and even some furniture. www.blauvent.com

Cheers from all the Team

Paragliding World Cup Superfial 2011: Weather-enforced rest day for day six
Nick Greece is earning an unfortunate reputation as a glider-destroyer, having damaged his first EnZo when a reserve rided ended in the embracing branches of a tree; and then accidentally melted Ozone's spare on some lamps embedded in a floor. Oops.

Pub to pub paragliding competition
Pub to Pub is a fun paragliding competition that doesn't take itself too seriously. It's taking place in the Corryong region of Victoria, Australia from 14-17 February 2012, just before the Ozone Corryong Open. A “challenging” task with turnpoints will
