eBay, Amazon, or the iRobot Roomba plat. When I checked it out, it was like 500 dollars! That's ridiculous for a brief auto-vacuum. Good luck.

iRobot's Roomba Vacuum - Does it live up to its hype?

The 21st century mind is obsessed with automating almost every angle of its daily life. Ideally, technology can help with automating the parts of ...

iRobot Roomba 770 Vacuum Cleaning Robot

"Work smarter, not harder." It's an axiom that works well for virtually any endeavor, but is especially fitting for cleaning. It's a job no one enjoys and most people would be happy to elude. The biggest cleaning innovation of the last decade has been a small collection of robotic assistants that can tidy up for us, and to do it more wisely, they've naturally gotten smarter, worked harder and lasted longer. iRobot's Roomba is a perfect example. The latest model, the 770 Vacuum Cleaning Robot ($499.99 direct), is smarter and more powerful than models we saw nearly a decade ago. And when necessary, the Roomba 770 will put some real elbow grease into the job to clean especially dirty spots. (I know, I know, it doesn't have elbows or arms.) Is this latest Roomba a perfect replacement for your old-fashioned, hand-powered vacuum? Not quite, but for certain environments and some people, it's a perfect solution.

IRobot's autonomous cleaning bot has been around since 2002, when it launched with a single $200 model . Now there are options that run the gamut from $200 all the way up to the tricked-out Roomba 780, which costs nearly $600. The 770 model I tested is virtually identical, but its remote is simpler and it doesn't have the 780's appealing silver detailing. The Roomba also faces some new competition from companies as big as LG and startups like Neato and Mint.

Is iRobot the Perfect Stock?

The quest for perfection
Stocks that look great based on one factor may prove horrible elsewhere, making due diligence a crucial part of your investing research. The most desirable stocks excel in many different areas, including these important factors:

Growth. Expanding businesses show healthy revenue growth. While past growth is no guarantee that revenue will keep rising, it's certainly a sport sign than a stagnant top line. Margins. Higher sales mean nothing if a company can't produce profits from them. Strong margins ensure that company can turn revenue into profit. Ponder sheet. At debt-laden companies, banks and bondholders compete with shareholders for management's prominence. Companies with strong balance sheets don't have to worry about the distraction of debt. Money-making opportunities. Return on equity helps measure how well a company is finding opportunities

iRobot Roomba Intelligent Floorvac Robotic Vacuum, Red

- The main perks of the drive-up charging foundation, included starting with the mid-line Discovery, isn’t truly the self-regulating charging. With the evil-minded in a room, you know where to find the vac when it’s done. Without it, Roomba finishes wherever it pleases — whether or not that’s a convenient place for you to retrieve it. - You can’t see one of the vac’s best clothes features in the product picture. A front-side brush sticks out the front-right side of the vac, so it gets as close into corners as upright vacs. With this brush and a wall-distance sensor, it hugs the baseboards and puts most vac’s “edge cleaning” claims to shame. - Design changes to recently built units fix problems reviewers report on units made before mid-2005. Check the serial number on the box when you get yours. Build dates June 2005 or later have the fixes. The build date is after the model number (JEN4xxx); six digit date should be greater than ’050601′, ignore the rest of the serial number after this. - Bumping into things first seems a rather crude way for it to find its way around, but it doesn’t seem to leave marks, and it’s vacuuming right up to things anyway. It takes longer to vacuum than you do, and its often random patterns seem inefficient. Let it be — it does remarkably well at covering everything this way. - You do need to empty its dustbin and check its underside after each run — after all, it’s about the size of a couple of Dustbusters, and those don’t run unattended over an entire room. Remove and empty the dirt/dustbin, turn the vac upside down on the counter, check the main brush and clear as needed. Yes, you’ll be doing this more often than on a full-size vac, but then, you don’t have to tend it the entire time it’s vacuuming. - The ‘virtual walls’ transmit a remote-control like infrared gleam that’s wider than you’d expect. If Roomba unexpectedly starts to act like it’s just run into an invisible force field, that just may be what happened. Reposition, turn off, or turn down the ‘virtual wall’.

Getting the most out of it: - Although Roomba can navigate mazes of table legs and other objects, consider small changes in furniture placement that can make big differences in how quickly Roomba gets the job done. Forests of openings that are just a bit wider than Roomba eat time –move some things together so openings are narrower than Roomba; others further aside from to speed passage. - All rechargeable appliance batteries lose power eventually. Roomba’s is easily replaceable, and if a $50 battery lasts you a year of vacuuming — that’s literally quite a good deal in the world of rechargeable batteries. Tip: newer Roombas have a somewhat hidden, built-in 16-hour battery “reconditioning” cycle useful when runtimes drop after some months. To trigger this cycle, take the battery out, press/hold ‘power’ for at least 30 seconds, wait 10 minutes or so, then put battery back in & start charger. The need for this isn’t indicative of a Roomba shortcoming — other rechargeable appliances should support battery conditioning & replacement instead of forcing you to throw ‘em away.

I don’t know what the original Roomba was like, but the Discovery series seems quite refined. There is very minimal documentation to explain Roomba, that’s how easy it is to use. Just put it on the center of your floor, press power, and then press the giant CLEAN button and Roomba does its thing. This one only comes with the slow charger, which is fine for my needs. The small battery provides an impressive run time, enough for at least 1000sq ft. It cleans under beds and will go pretty much everywhere it can fit. It DEFINITELY works. My room seemed fairly clean, but Roomba proved it wasn’t. Roomba picked up all kinds of lint, hair, and other nasty things. I think Roomba can replace a conventional vac, because you can set it out more often. A lot of thought went into the design, like the rollers and dust bin. Everything in it that needs notice (filter, dustbin, rollers, etc.) comes out VERY easily and goes back together very easily. It has both a brush style roller, and a rubber squeegee style roller. The design of the rollers makes them very easy to clean with the supplied tool to cut and brush out any entangled hair. With its soft knobby tires, it never gets stuck.

Our Roomba is truly a part of the family. We call on Paco (do not know why it seems to fit). We have four (4) dogs, two hairs and two short hairs. Without complying with Paco, is with the hair and soil run every day from Paco bring in., We control the hair to keep to a minimum, even under the beds, where cleaning is almost impossible. Paco The cleaning up is easy if you have the right tools. Problems with my Roomba (my third) is that it is impossible to get a person on the phone or online. E-mail to iRobot usually within 30-45 days, the defence is also a problem. Send extra brushes, sweeps, etc., which helps the robot, but I think an old comb, a small screwdriver, a clamp, and an old toothbrush to clean Paco. I hope this lasts longer than the other two.

I love my Roomba 562! I’ve been using for about two weeks and do a great job to keep pet hair and dirt me free. I want to thank you for asking Amazon for my contributions to my Roomba. Initially I got the Roomba 532 Pet Series Schlemmer Hammacher. I ordered just the 562 series, but it was positive. Then he asked me about my Amazon receipt and decided to contact Hammacher Schlemmer. I spoke with a very nice customer service representative who assured me that I was the 562 model and, unfortunately, ordered H-Gourmet Express is the wrong model for customers. I returned the model 532 and I 562 interchange model. However, it took three weeks to complete the transaction. During the wait, I spoke with the other two customer service representatives who were knowledgeable and more uncooperative. My experience is not unique on the main ingredient of many of the other posts I’ve read. I am very happy with our Roomba and it would be highly recommended.

We have our Roomba in January 2010 and had approx. 6 months later, I still love and am very happy that we purchase. It took a little convincing for me to my husband to get to vote with the market, but now he calls the “empty”, and wants to show our friends and family when they pass by. For us, it really reduced my time within weeks. With two cats in the house, birds, rabbits and a dog, pet hair gets followed throughout. With two young children in our kitchen (floor) nibblets food gets all over the floor. Set up an empty room (with the help of virtual walls) focus makes a big difference. Often we venture inside the house.

The only problem we occasionally if it is still within our showcase or hang when trying to suck on a toy left behind by a hanging shoe laces or omitted. All very minor problems. I would say that is a bit strange, if in the middle of the night (like last night) have caused this brings me to our room. My guess is, it gets turned into cats while they are around at night running. I hope that’s all. ?)

I will say that I am still running my other vacuum cleaner (old Rainbow) about once a month. We have a certain carpet in our living room is the way physical hair after a while and it is difficult to get with the Roomba, but in general, see the carpet as we regularly vacuum and you can see where everything gets clean. Note that you must do to clean it regularly, and by that I mean, every time this is done the cleaning. This could be a pain, some seem to be, but is really only about five minutes to do. It may be worthwhile if done for me the program whenever I want to get to come home to clean carpets. In another positive is that it makes children and my husband is much change one's mind with well-advised cleaning.
